Guest Old Canny Street Kid
Danville Hotel 1 Danville Street Open 1883 Closed 1925 Span 42 Comments Earlier When I was a lad there was just a piece of waste ground where this pub used to be. I would describe it as having been almost straight opposite where the Tea Garden Terrace pub stand on Grimesthorpe Road. Incidetnally, I saw a picture of the Danville Hotel in a book of old pub pictures by J.R. Wrigley.
Guest Old Canny Street Kid
Danville Hotel 1 Danville Street Open 1883 Closed 1925 Span 42 Comments Earlier Was this pub, which stood at the corner of Danville Street and Grimesthorpe Road, demolished following closure, or did it fall victim to a German bomb in WW2? When I knew Danville Street as a boy in the mid 1940s, the area where the pub had stood was waste land --perhaps it had been a bomb site? The houses immediately above where the pub had stood were held up by huge wooden supports, and subsequently these houses were demolished. The whole of the bottom end of that side of Danville Street stood empty for years. Incidentally, the pub must have been virtually across the road from the Tea Garden pub.
