Hi, this was the Brittain beerhouse acording to the census 1901 and trade directories of 1902 as Charles Steade (my grandma's father) was the publican then and lived there with his wife: Emma and two children: Ellen (my gran) and Norman (great uncle). It was situated on the corner of Matilda/Shoreham Street. Also it was his uncle who built the houses around Highfield amidst the 1800's.

Surely the Albion on Mitchell St is the very same building as the one built 1835,

When most of the property was demolished in the late 50s and early 60s didn't that part

of Mitchell St change to Brook Drive for the new developement.

I remember going in the Albion in the 1970s and I believe it was still open in the 80s.

If it's the same one it's still standing as flats now.

Hi

My great grandfather had the Blue Pig 22 Workhouse Lane in 1884, he may have been there in 1883 also.

Mr Henry Cornthwaite.

I've seen this printed before in the book "A pub on every corner" The Alexandra being at number 23 Dover Street, believe me that was never a pub. I used to live there the middle house of a block of 6.

Before we lived there a blind lady Mrs Bond in the 1940s lived there. The house was very basic it still

had the old gas light fittings and definately no beer cellar.

It most likely was number 31 as it was on a corner and it did have the remains of a large wooden

cellar door on the ground.

I believe it was some time last year when it reopened. ;-)

The Ball Inn Spurr Lane, was post #154 and

The Ball Inn Myrtle Road, was post #148

are both the same pub,

It was the road name that changed when Myrtle Road was extended to join Easbank Road.
