ukelele lady
Yes, indeed. Looking at the pictures we have of the Alexandra I think another one must have been built later in years. The first picture of the Alexandra Furnival Road is not on a corner , it looks entirely different. If so what year was it replaced? You would think I would have better things to do this time of year wouldn't you ?

RichardS
Previous to 1865 it was originally the Manchester, Lincolnshire and Sheffield Railway inn. I've looked at the maps and I would suggest new build in the same place, or at least extension and new frontage, but the pub hasn't moved as such, but the surrounding places were demolished to make room for Castlegate. RichardS
Google Street view pic. There is deffo an older part to the back of the building and I would suggest new frontage looking at this pic. I would say the rounded frontage was added in the 20's to fit with the construction of Castlegate.

ukelele lady
I think the Britannia Broad Lane and the Fox & Duck Broad Lane was one of the same sometime or other. Here's how it looks The Fox & Duck 50 Broad Lane 1828 John Poole Then a gap up to 1845, in the mean time. The Britannia 101 Boad Lane 1833 to 1837 John Poole 1839 James Ibbotson [ change of number to 50 Broad Lane ] 1841 Richard Merrington No more keepers found until 1845 at 50 Broad Lane under the Fox & Duck Also they are never both printed together in the same book.
