RichardB
I've heard of most, even just from Directories, A Pub on every Corner etc etc. So, it's usually slogging through piles of old data looking for people to associate with their correct Pub. I've just found the following : Stannary Inn, 2 Green Lane, William Whittaker (1881) and I'm happy as a pig in muck ! Probably just "The Ball" renamed, I'll look into it further ... dobberd
Just to put Harold Street firmly in place, at the top is Daniel Hill St and the bottom is Burgoyne Road not too far from a certain Birkendale Road!! My mum lived on Harold Street and I am trying to stir her memories for any info. May take a while

This one had me foxed too with no clear continuity & no obvious grant. Took the Cornish connection of the name to assume it was at that intersection (but neither 2 Green nor 2 Cornish are there) or otherwise mislabled. Best I could come up with was that an old eating house had somehow preserved a beer-on licence despite being on the market almost as often as not. Really should have clicked sooner, particularly given the name of the licensee. It was the birthplace of this brewery. Quite how it got into (and stayed) in the Sheffield directory is anyone's guess. However, this is what it said in 1881 Kelly's Directory of the West Riding: and it was an error that was copied into White's 1883 Directory of Sheffield too.
