neddy
Thanks neddy, It seems that my chance taking of those 2 pictures of Parkwood Springs came at a very opportune time. When they were taken in late 1974 this clearance and redevelopment would have been well under way. One of the houses centre in your pic belonged to one of the White's in the Holtwood House thread and he built one of the pigeon lofts.

RichardB
A most interesting and somehow sad read. Thank you. I suppose the same kind of feelings and publications must have existed for the Kelvin.
neddy
The sad bit is the council must have known what was going to happen and gave false hope, there's a couple more Echo's to come.
RichardB
The sad bit is the council must have known what was going to happen and gave false hope, there's a couple more Echo's to come. Of course they knew. Great news about further Echo's, looking forward to them. Now an appeal for more stuff burried in drawers/boxes/attics since Lord knows when; come on Folks, have a dig around; we need more articles/newspapers etc. If you can't scan stuff yourself, please let me know - I'm sure we can arrange local volunteers to do it for you. Thanks again Neddy, brilliant work.

Guest valeroadbaby
Is anyone able to settle an arguement between my mother and her sister? They were both born in Vale Road during the war and left in the 60's. My mother is convinced that there was a wet fish shop on Pickering Road opposite Mount Road but her sister says that it was not there. Can anyone shed any light ? Thanks

Guest valeroadbaby
Would that be Stella and Fay? Yes. My mom is Fay. We came up to Parkwoods Springs a few weeks ago and this has rekindled our interest in the area. We now live in Cambridgeshire but Stella lives in Hackenthorpe so we still have connections up here. RichardB
Feltham the pig man. Brilliant work Neddy, Thank you, I barely knew where Parkwood Springs was ! I'm a mere youth though. Was Feltham the Pig Man a local Parkwood Springs Superhero or a man that kept pigs and his surname happened to be Feltham ?

RichardB
He kept pigs as a sideline, his Alsation dog was the Superhero everytime it escaped it used to clear the streets I remember an Afghan hound we used to call Pyjama Legs that scared the heck out of me in the early 1970's Dykes Hall Road. Still scared to this day of medium sized black dogs ... will cross the road to avoid 'em, phobia dates from the mid-1960's or a while ago as its known. neddy
Further research reveals that Thomas W Moore 99 Pickering Road which would be Felthams was a fried fish dealer, so the story that you could buy fish from there could be correct, a friend says it used to be known as piggy Moores who also sold pies, just before my time.
