Even more confusing Pigotts 1829 dir.

Golden Ball, Hannah Marshall, Townhead street

Golden Ball, Antipas Stevens, 49 Campo lane

Could the number(s) change be due to Road improvements/widening in 1837 ?

Could be, either that or it should be called The Rolling Ball.

The 1903 map layout is very similar to the 1954 OS maps.

Ball (approximate) and Golden Ball marked.

Usually if the pub is on a corner both addresses are given as the map shows the pub stands on both Townhead Street and Campo Lane.

1905 Whites says 10 Townhead Street and Campo Lane.

From Picture Sheffield:

Townhead Street looking towards Campo Lane and the Golden Ball, gable belongs to the Burns P.H., St. James Church spire in background 1898:
