Seem to remember that it burned down in the late 1930s.

You're right - it did

I wonder if the Star sent photographers to events like that as they do in the current day ?

Someone did.....

Don't forget the Cinecenta, Sheffield's first twinned cinema in Pond St. Ended life as a cinema club but started with two public cinemas. Now part of the Odeon, I think.

Great spot

I've had a play to try and retouch it up slightly..

Only gently mind you..

The film advertised was made in 1932 so gives us a year, give or take.

Look forward to seeing that. There were so many that every district had at least a couple and they were cheap!

Now I recall the Cinecenta being like soft porn in the early 70's. I also recall my one afternoon visit and way later (like nowadays) no idea of the actual film but did recall the place being packed! Cinecenta was part of the whole complex of Multi storey car park, Top Rank Suite, Club Fiesta, shops and the begining of a big rejuvination of Sheffield.

The Costcutter on London Road has the look of a cinema. Is this The Landsdowne? I have a photo but dont know how to upload it.

Hi Poppychristine, to upload a picture:

Select Reply from the previous posting, Type in your message as normal. Select Procure and select the picture from your computer. When this is completed press Upload. Any problems, PM me.

If the building you're talking about has a Pagoda roof, it is indeed the Landsdown, Lacarno etc.
