THE NEW BRIDGE INN

LOCATION

INFORMATION

Landlord - Jack (now run by his daughter Tina)

The pub was originally called The New Inn and it remained so up until the original brick built Wadsley Bridge was pulled down and replaced with the steel bridge we see today.

Prior to this happening double decker buses struggled to get up the hill and had to steer into the centre of the road so that they could fit under the brick arch.

At the stroke of midnight the bridge was demolished and the Bridge Inn was renamed The New Bridge Inn (the old name of the pub is outside engraved in the wall)

The pub featured in a movie starring Michael Elphick that was filmed there in 1984's called Bird Fancier that was shown on BBC 1

"It is with deep regret that I have to let all the loyal customers know that as of Monday the 18th, the New Bridge will be boarded up for the foreseeable future. I have enjoyed my time there and would like to wish all, the very best and keep safe. Shaun and Elaine"
