Remeber the opening scene in the Full Monty it was a film of Sheffield in the Sixties showing industry, sport and the modern down town including the "Hole In The Road". That would be a great addition to this page if at all available.

We've ordered a copy - there's astory behind it too

'Sheffield..City on the move' was it's title I believe..

The Reel Monty

Thirty years ago a handful of council officials sat in a dimly lit Sheffield theatre and witnessed the debut of a film that was supposed to sell their city to the world.

It never happened. In fact the film launched on February 22, 1972, went largely unnoticed and would have been consigned to the forgotten archives if it hadn’t been for the most incredible story in British movie history.

In 1997, after a long search, the makers of City On The Move were tracked down by a film company planning a movie about redundant Sheffield steelworkers turning to stripping for a living.

Jim and Marie-Luise Coulthard, pleased with the interest in their film after all this time, gladly accepted the company’s offer of £400 for the use of some of their old footage.

By the time The Full Monty received its fifth Oscar nomination the Coulthard’s had helped American movie giant 20th Century Fox gross over £180 million.

Many moviegoers assumed the City On The Move footage that opened The Full Monty was a spoof but they were very wrong.

The release of this, the authentic full-length video, is an attempt to give Jim and Marie-Luise Coulthard the recognition they never received.

City On The Move captures the hopes and aspirations of this great British city in its industrial prime. It is a piece of living history that touches upon virtually every aspect of Sheffield life between 1970 and 1972.

It depicts an optimistic city totally oblivious to the cruel twist of fate that was about to totally decimate its steel industry and throw thousands-upon-thousands on to the dole.

Thirty years since the launch of City On The Move and the spirit of optimism has once again returned to the streets of Sheffield as it undergoes a breath-taking transformation.

Multi-million pound programmes like Heart of the City are spearheading a cultural renaissance as visitors flock to the new Millennium Galleries and Peace Gardens.

Thousands of jobs in new and non-traditional industries have reversed the years of decline and an estimated £1.3 billion pounds of new investment is lined up to drive the city’s regeneration machine over the next few years.

One of these has interior shots of the Fiesta - hence my interest in getting hold of it

A 1972 Sheffield promotional film which unwittingly became the city’s biggest-ever cinema export is being released worldwide as a tribute to its director who died suddenly in February.

Jim Coulthard’s City On The Move release (now re-titled The Reel Monty) touched on virtually every aspect of day-to-day life in seventies Sheffield and includes the long-gone hole-in-the-road, the city centre having a glittering set of Christmas illuminations “more expensive than anywhere else in the UK”, “showpieces of civic development” in the shape of Hyde Park and Park Hill flats and names the “Mediterranean-style” council accommodation that was shaping Gleadless Valley.

The film – which he made with his wife Marie-Luise Coulthard – helped 20th Century Fox gross over £180m when a few minutes of it fronted the worldwide smash hit film The Full Monty.

The Coulthards were paid just £400.

But unexpected interest from Full Monty fans and ex-Sheffielders living in around the world has been so strong with orders coming from the USA, Russia and Australia that a special website - www.thereelmonty.co.uk – has now been set up so people can order by credit card across the globe.

Marie-Luise Coulthard said: ““The Reel Monty is a fitting tribute to Jim’s life and his love of film making.”

Jim Coulthard went on to make many other films and recently completed a three video set of 12 months in the life of the Peak District with his wife.

Their Coulthard Productions company has spent more than five decades in the film industry and taken them to France, Germany, Holland, Scandinavia and the Far East.

The Reel Monty had a special limited video re-release last year to celebrate its 30th anniversary with hundreds of copies being snapped up by local fans.

Jim was 77 years old when he died and lived in Baslow, Derbyshire.

Why the intrest in the Fiesta?? My sister worked there from it opening for a number of years so we were lucky enough to get "Comp" tickets as well as autograpghed photos of many of the stars who appeared there.

I'm just trying to put together the definitive guide to nightclubs and bars of Sheffield past - with as much information as possible

Anything you can get would be brilliant

I never went to the Fiesta and so am really interested in what it was like too
