Hi all , im.sorry if this thread is in the wrong place I'm trying to find final resting place of any Learys who lived on spital hill (#44-46) and rock street  , they were in the methodist church ,not sure if the bodys where buried or cremated,  John leary (draper) (could be buried in the area) and his Wife Emma Leary nee beard (Emma possibly passed away in stoney Middleton) their children all moved away

Their children where :

Albert edward Leary died 1916 christchurch hospital bournemouth from TB  he was down as being a drapers assistant at time of death so not war related?  The family had money he was their only son , would John and Emma leave his body all that way down south?

Ethel baker Leary died in cleethorpes she married twice , first marriage was to a chambers (possibly John) then she married a birkett also brought up 5 or 6 kids that were not hers (both marriage were 2nd for the husband)

Ida may leary died either 1961 or 63 in bridlington a spinster she lived in stoney Middleton with her mum at one point till Emma died , she was the one who took care of everyone more so my grandmother and great aunt after their mother (Ida's sister Doris) passed away so young

Eva maude Leary , not sure when she passed away she married a gibson and moved to Canada in 1915 possibly with the methodist movement

Doris hilda Leary (my Great grandmother) died around 1935ish possibly around spital hill could be buried in the area

I know I've got family out there somewhere all linked to the learys

I've added a photo of John and Emma Leary with their children also Doris Leary and Joseph Harrisons wedding which was in the burngreave church

The two newspaper cuttings below, from the Lincolnshire Chronicle may throw some light into Leary family goings on.  In 1899 John and his younger brother Thomas (Town Postman in Welton village, Lincs) were unwilling to support their parents (William and Rebecca) who were on Poor Relief in their home village of Welton (5 miles north east of Lincoln).

Quite right!

Edward Leary was born in 1818 at Welton, the son of William Leary.  Edward married Sarah Baker on 27th July 1840.

1672139369_EdwardSarahLearymarriage1840.png.749485fdfcd85777103173f4d40fb307.png

Edward and Sarahs children were:

Mary Ann baptised 6th December 1840 and buried 20th December 1858

Thomas (postman) baptised 12th February 1843

Susan baptised 6th July 1845

Ann born quarter 1 1847 (mothers maiden name Baker) buried 9th January 1859

Edward baptised 29th April 1849 buried 19th November 1854

William baptised 2nd November 1851 possibly buried 19th January 1859

John baptised 2nd July 1854

Betsey baptised 21st August 1859

Edward's wife Sarah was buried on 10th May 1881 at St Mary's Welton aged 65. In May 1882 Edward remarried to a much younger spinster from Welton, named Ann Palin (see newspaper report), he was 64 and she was 47.  Edward died aged 88 on 2nd February 1906 and was buried at Welton on 6th February.  According to the Lincolnshire Family History Society there is a monumental inscription in St Mary's graveyard, which is at location "faculty" and reference ANW6.  (I wonder if his offspring finally put their hands in their pockets for a gravestone?)

I was starting to wonder maybe Edward and Sarah ended up in a poor house but I guess they didn't otherwise they would have been put in a public grave? We went to Eccleshall church over the weekend  just for a mooch about and you can tell you needed money to have that type of grave there so for his parents to have just an inscription and for him to have a posher grave just don't sit right with me , what an awful man he was , bet his parents begged borrowed and stole to feed all their kids ,what a kick in the teeth to be pushed aside and labelled a burden later in life when they needed them the most , hope Mrs leary #2 didn't have it as bad

I think I know why they didn't pay,

Sarah had passed away some 8yrs prior to this , Edward would have been with his 2nd wife (palin) they probably felt that they shouldn't have to pay for their step mother , could of been out of spite for him getting remarried  its definitely my learys as my Great great grandfather John had 2 shops on spital hill , looks like Sarah and Edward are next to each other in Welton,  no headstone from what I can see on Google maps ( could be flat) but will pop along and plant a flower for them looks like their son William is next to Sarah also

Still can't find any of the graves in ecclesall church which is frustrating
