Andrew Spacey
I'm keen to know the history of this pub, now The Brothers Arms. Anyone know how old this property is? Previous lives? I see it's close to the cruck barn - any old maps revealing connection, use of current pub? Perhaps the Bard stayed overnight back in day?
boginspro
Shakey was a good pub and one of my locals before they pulled our house down. A picture below from about that time and an interesting map from 1850/51 before most of the houses were built and not long after opening in 1849, as per pubs thread N to S, link below: https://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/topic/3531-pubs-n-to-s-keepers-picture-links/page/25/#comments https://maps.nls.uk/view/102345217
Old Sheffield
From my Twitter account...One of my more successful photo blends. My family were Heeley based in the 20's and 30's, I was told a story about one of my relatives taking a fairly new girlfriend in the Shakey. Sat at a table were her mother and auntie, both nursing a half. Despite limited funds her offered them a drink, the both asked for a pint, drained it and requested 'same again please'.
