Lysanderix
I escaped from the reign of Miss Wragg when I left Hucklow Road only to meet up with her again when my parents moved onto Shiregreen. She was less awesome by this time and I enjoyed my short renewed stay in her “care”. I well remember the air raid shelter ,entry to which by 1952 was forbidden, the quadrangle, the emphasis on rounders and ,horror of horrors ,the dancing! I also wore the school badge with a …hart and a brook …with pride! I had taken the 11 plus at Acres Hill and was the only one that year from there to go to FPGS ….but several went from Hartley Brook…none of whom were particular friends…so making new ones at the Brushes became a must….and I was glad to renew friendships with lads from Hucklow Road.😏
