Came across this while reading a 1700 diary. Does this house ring a bell with anyone? May not refer to Sheffield, but I wondered.

Mr. Robert Blackburn, of the Glass house, is dead at Sheffeild.

See 1700s diary, Non Sheffield History section.

Hi tsavo, Have done some reading and I wonder if this refers to where glass was produced as many of the early glass producers referred to their works as Glass Houses ????

Yes, it's a bit of a puzzler, Codeyes. Wonder if there was a glass factory in Sheffield at that time. Maybe the owner called his house after that?
