If memory serves correctly, Scamps was next door to the Hoffbrau House. Spent many nights in there and Faces from about 76 to 79.

The deaf mute bouncer at Josephines was definitely Alan Kilby.

Didn't Sheffield have a Dingwalls for 5 minutes during the early/mid eighties.

Also, it's funny how many nightclubs were situated outside the city centre. I can't think of any that aren't in or around Sheffield centre nowadays.

Didn't "Faces" turn into "The Charles Street Underground"?

Yes,it did.I remember playing there in the mid 80's with a band called Schaeffer. There were pillars all over the place holding the ceiling up and I kept hitting one with my bass guitar!

Blimey must be old lol!! remember romeo and juliets and the two rooms!!! - was very young then - too young but in them days you got in easily! ha ha ha  loved it!! and the quiet corners he he!

Remeber Roxy's ==== Barry Nobles' hey some laughs there!! and the fights for the taxi's after!!

Only went in Joesphine's once and there was a fight. I was dancing and glasses were thrown and I ended up in the cross fire with a very badly cut foot and believe it or not.... the management wouldn't do a thing about it -- could sue em nowadays!!!

Remember Cairo Jax as it became called lol.

Hi and welcome lee,

'Roundhouse' has me puzzled,

where was it please.

The Roundhouse was under Ponds Forge.

Still there, just not used as a club anymore.

Yes it's part of the complex, the entrance is on the left at the bottom of commercial street on the junction with parksquare roundabout.

Definately was - but probably for only a couple of years , if that (79-80). I am sure somebody can confirm this!

It was called Vicars from 1980 to 1983

I seem to remember in the late 70's early 80's there was a nightclub above the Silver Blades ice rink, I don't know if this has been mentioned.

Mona Lisa was attached to the back of Genevieve nightclub. You went in round the corner from Genevieve. There was a staircase that went from inside the Mona Lisa down into Genvieve.

Suprised not to see the most iconic nightclub of the period on this list - Shades - which used to be on Eccleshall Rd at Greystones just below the cinema. Was owned by Max who went on to open Maximillians in town.

Samatha's Disco was around in the early 70's. I remember because I worked in the Alhambra downstairs. They used to do auditions too once a month for groups - I can remember having the chance to see potential managers just say 'stop' and that was the end of that groups audition.

In fact I don't think we've mentioned The Alhambra (based on the old time music hall) in the same building. Bingo and Social clubs 7 days a week but ater 10pm on Fridays and Saturday's became The Alhambra Music Hall. They weould have 4 semi or professional acts on. Cheap entry and was packed (and I mean packed!) on Friday and Sarday mights. Well controlled and both waitress service to tables or visit the bar.

This was all part of the Mecca Entertainments Centra on Queeens Road which comprised of The Craywood Casino (basemen), Silver Blades Ice Rink and The Alhambra on the ground floor and then Samatha's Discoteque on the fist floor.

What about the Buccaneer - Leopold Street I think. We didn't go anywhere else between about 1970 and 1972. There was a pub on the opposite side which felt like it had no roof as if you were standing outside - the Whetstone I think!

Towards the end of that period and up to the mid-70s we went to the Wapentake because it wasn't quite as dark as the Buccaneer and you could see who you were talking to!
