Hoffenbru wow what a place!

I would have though all young lads in Sheffield would had headed to this venue at some point in their adolescence (far cheaper than a trip to Amsterdam)

Best description I ever heard for the place was "the place where young housewives go to make the taxi fare after a heavy shopping trip down The Moor"

I think it was actually called "the Hoffbrau House" .

Cracking night out ,good beer ,Oompah Band dancing on tables I think later tuned into Berlins

I've never heard the name 'McVickers' before..

That doesn't mean it wasn't though - just that I'd not heard the name before !

Definately was - but probably for only a couple of years , if that (79-80). I am sure somebody can confirm this!

One club that is missing was Peter Stringfellows first club which was

The Black Cat Club on City Road. Opened early 1960's and was to have been the

venue for the first Beatles gig in the city in 1963, but due to their having a number one record with

"Please Please Me" the concert was moved to the Azena Ballroom.

The club was actually based in St Aidens Church.

The Club 60 was run by Tony and Marie (I Think) and we had Joe Cocker there a lot and Dave Berry used to pop in.

Was Limit the club that used to be mostly punk etc? Seem to remember that I saw a few groups in there in the late 70's including Selector. Downstairs in a cellar type room, very hot and sweaty. Also a club that you didn't need to be dressed up for...

Maximillions - Also known as Geneveve,

Once saw Atomic Rooster at Maximillions, about 1980, Ginger Baker of Cream was supposed to be performing with them that night, but he left the band, joined Hawkwind, how were playing the City Hall that night, hence the rumour he would be playing with the roosters.

Anyway me and pal Ken headed out on West Street and associated side streets at 5:30 pm (opening time back then), drank a pint in every pub, and arrved 22 pints later, in a sorry state and caused mayhem; Ken by collapsing onto the drum kit and being escorted from the building by the bobbies; me by shouting "Break the Ice" all night, even the band couldn't remember recording that particular song !

Walked home at 6:30 am havingbeen woken by the cleaners, recovered some 3 days later in the cellar of my parents home, with a duvet strapped around my head with one of my Dad's old leather belts; Happy Days lol

What about the *** wasn't this another of Sheffields serious dives that turned into a nightclub? I can remeber walking in on a saturday night with leathers and hippy juice, having a drink no problem, walked in the following Saturday with a suit on , and being chased out with a hundred bottles following me.

Wasn't there an Annabelle's in Nether Edge?

Seem to remember the hours were restricted as very much a residential area. Went there a few times in the late 1970s early 80s.

Perhaps someone can jog my memory?

Does anyone remember the Rock Club at Frechville in the mid 1960's? It was held in the Community Hall, and later changed its name to the R & B Club. Only open on a Saturday night, they had some great live bands and I vividly remember seeing The Fortunes and Dave Berry perform there. My memory is, sadly, otherwise sketchy on this venue and the bands that played it and I would welcome a refresher from anyone who went.

It was called Vickers, I met my husband there in Jan 86, I think it was back to the Locarno by then though.
