GillieBobs
Hi Knowledgable Sheffielders I am from Sheffield and I am currently doing my Worrall Family History. I am trying to find the name and any historical records for a company that "Manufacture Engineers Tools in Sheffield". That's all I know about them but my Grandfather was a Director of this company and I'd really like to find out more. My Grandfather was John Stones Worrall (1884-1967) worked for them most of his working life. I have found the following: 1911 Census - Commercial Clerk 1925 Kelly's - Cashier 1939 Register - Director & Company Secretary 1940 Kelly's - Director and he probably retired around 1949, where again he was listed as Company Secretary. Also, his son Ivan Worrall is listed in the 1939 Register as Chief Clerk for the same company. I have a lot of detail but No Name of the Company. I'd like to see if I can get some history of the firm but which firm? I know that Worrall was not in the firm's name. If I had a name and the company still exists I could possibly enquire at Company's House for his directorship which might lead me somewhere. Also I have not been able to check on any old Sheffield Newspapers. Does the Sheffield Star & telegraph have any on-line archives? Again this might be a lead. Thanking you all in anticipation, Gill Lobley
Hopman
J S Worrall was left £1000 in the will when Joseph Hall the boss of the company died in October 1927 Check the Sheffield Daily Telegraph for Tuesday 31st January 1928. Over £15K in today’s terms, I honestly thought it would be more. 13 hours ago, Hopman said: J S Worrall was left £1000 in the will when the boss of the company died in 1928 (?) GillieBobs
S and J Hall rings a bell with me. Feeling sure this is my answer. Anybody got anymore details about what they manufactured? How many they employed? Assuming they have now closed down what is there on Hereford Street now? Thank you all you good Sheffielders for your help. Much appreciated. Thank you all you good Sheffielders for your help. Much appreciated. Hello @GillieBobs I replied to you on my profile messages, but copied here for your reference. I’ve actually found the link to the document again, after I searched my archives from June. I attached page 4 of the document, showing your GF’s signature. You can download the entire document here if you are interested in taking a copy. You will find it right at the bottom of page 7, dated 1929. Good luck with your research. Also, as my previous reply, G&J Hall are still going, but now based on Burgess Street in Attercliffe.
