Voldy
Just the 24" curved ruler has this name inscription on this double-sided unusual device. The straight 36" version (also reversable) has no name or marking on it but appears to be of similar construction, both have eighth of an inch graduations with both ruler widths being 1&5/8" . 246 West Street appears to have been connected with the company at some stage though Photography and Steel seemed to dominate. One theory is that they had their devices (like these 'rulers') made elsewhere, and were eventually taken over by foreign interests. Can anyone explain the use and age of theses two articles? Ken
The curved ruler is probably a "hip curve" ruler used in sewing/tailoring. You can still buy them today from craft shops.
Voldy
Thank you for that; back in the mid 50's I worked in a building in Union Street . From our window we could look down to a tailors workroom in the building opposite where suit lengths were being marked and cut out. They probably used something similar.
