Disused railway walk down to the old Spinkhill Tunnel

The old disused Beighton Branch of the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway runs from Beighton Junction (where it left the old Midland Railway) all the way out to Langwith Junction.

You can walk along the old trackbed for much of it from Rother Valley Country Park. Accessibility does vary along the route but there are some great old bridges and relics left behind. Especially in the section before Killamarsh.

I've only been as far as the Spinkhill Tunnel so far as I can see most of the trackbed has been claimed/developed past Spinkhill.

This is part 2 of the set of videos I did of the route.

Thank you very much for posting your video. I really enjoyed watching the same.

It’s a very long time indeed since I last visited the L. D &. E. C. R., and I am both, amazed and saddened by how much this long defunct line has changed so much in the past 40+ years.

I have taken the opportunity of sharing with you, some images taken by myself in “happier times”.

I hope that you can relate them back to the remains and locations shown in your video.

Love these photos. Can't believe how much its changed.

Interesting to see how different it looks with less vegetation.

First pictures I've seen of the bridges before they were ruins too.

Thanks very much for sharing these.

Thanks both of you....I have walked along some of the way in the past....with, I recall, a few scary looking drops along the way .I still wonder at the iron bridge on the way into Killamarsh.

Love the iron bridges.

Both the one over the road in to Killamarsh and the River Rother Bridge. I think the Killamarsh one feels higher.

Both in a bit of a state of disrepair now. I often wonder if at some stage the health and safety crew will fence them off.

By the way. I walked up the track bed south of Killamarsh last weekend and noticed that at the Spinkhill end there as a footpath closed sign up.
