Robin Hughes
Does anyone know what became of the plaque that used to mark Percy Riley Corner, at the top of Fargate? There used to be a plaque originally mounted on an upright block next to the Goodwin Fountain, see https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s33628&pos=1&action=zoom&id=107736. When the fountain was removed in 1998 it was set into the pavement, which is how it appears in the attached picture. The last sighting I have of it is from February 2012, but when I went to look for it about a month ago (February 2021) I could not find it. There is a picture of Percy himself here: https://www.thestar.co.uk/heritage-and-retro/retro/19-pictures-take-you-back-christmas-sheffield-during-1980s-3057551?page=3.
