southside
I've been doing some family history research! Found an image on FMP for the baptism of my 2x Grandfather in the records for St Silas in the parish of Gilcar. The image clearly shows the year 1867, apparently St Silas Church(Broomhall) opened in 1869. Can anyone tell me if there had been an older St Silas Church in the area, also were there any schools in that area around that time, (my ancestors lived on Young Street). johnm
It opened 3 April 1867. Its registers are transcribed on Sheffield Indexers see www.sheffieldindexers.com
southside
Thanks johnm. I saw on the parish records that St Silas was consecrated in 1869 and assumed that was when it first opened, my ancestor was baptised in the Parish of Gillcar in 1867, so I guess he was baptised before the Church was consecrated?
