Petre Street

My grandparents and Mum lived on Petre Street from 1913 to 1929, and subsquently moved to Canada St, then Carwood Rd. Does anyone know roughly when these houses were built? Would they have had electric light and/or sewage? Or anything else of interest.

There's not a trace of Petre street on the 1863 map, but by March 1867 the foundation stone for the Primitive Methodist Chapel had been laid and by 1873 there was some housing in place as seen on this map:

In May 1871 there was a sale by auction of "Four recently-erected DWELLING HOUSES, respectivley numbered 96, 98, 100 and 102 in Petre street..." (just about where the 'E' is in PEtre on the above map)

By 1889 Petre Street was built up as far as where it ended at that time (about where Carwood Close is now).

In 1886, as Sheffield had two Petre Streets, the Corporation decided to rename them - the one near Glossop road was to be Bolton Street, and the Ellesmere Road one was to be Ludlow Street.  Probably the folly of renaming two rather than just one is why Petre Street remains.
