Osborn(e)

Hi

I'm am trying to trace the Osborne side of my family but am stuck at my great grandfather, William Osborne. He was born 1st May 1887, Sheffield to Elizabeth Osborne. She is listed as a widow on the 1891 census and there is no father listed on his birth certificate. Also on the census for 1891 is his sister Ellen (b.1885) but this is the only reference I can find for her, no birth or baptism records. Subsequent census records (1901 & 1911) show Elizabeth and William together, in the latter as part of his household as he was married by 1909. This is as much info as I can be certain of. I have identified another Elizabeth Osborn, born in 1851 and a widow in the workhouse at Ecclesall Bierlow and roughly the same age and it appears that the same Elizabeth went back in the workhouse around 1911 and died there in 1913. I'm assuming she was widowed when William and Ellen was born and had them out of wed-locked, giving them her martial name. On one census her name is spelt 'Elisabeth' and on another the surname is 'Osborn'. My grandmother used to say the family was related, I think as cousins, to the steel family Osborn, but I can't work out how it would fit at present. As the archives is currently closed, is there any way I can check the Elizabeth in the workhouse to see if she is my great great grandmother?? Also , long shot but is there anyone on here who has researched the same people??

Thanks!!

Williams father was also William - he was a stone mason:

William's mother Elizabeth was buried in grave number 13893, section Y, City Road on 15th February 1913.  Also in the same grave is Lily Osborne, William and Elvina's 23 month old daughter who was buried on 2nd October 1916, also Brian Culf a 7 year old who died at Lodge Moor Hospital and was buried on 24th February 1943.
