Cab ride from Chesterfield Via Sheffield to Deepcar

There's no sound to the video but we travel on a class 66 from Chesterfield via Barrow Hill, Beighton, Woodhouse, Darnall and pass by the remains of Sheffield Victoria then out towards Deepcar. The video was made recently, but due to the EU laws on privacy at the time, the cab sound could not be recorded so that's why it's silent.

The remarkable thing about this video, is how much of the route is now just a single track, a great deal of it in a woodland setting.  I recall travelling in the cab of an EM1 from Darnell to Woodhead during training in the 70's.  It still had the look of a mainline then, with 4 track sections and stations in tact, including Victoria (although closed).  Wath yard was still open.  My other interesting recollection was of Woodburn Jcn box, which was quite a large box, and where you could get you hair cut by one of the signalman for a few bob.

Sadly Woodburn Junction box got burned down a few years ago. Hence the need for porto cabins in the video.

It's remarkable how long Victoria Station lasted. Bits of it ended up in the National Railway Museum.
