1940 Blitz Honours

Just to expand on the excellent posts here are the other people of Sheffield who were noted for their actions on the night of the Sheffield Blitz  

Six George medals were awarded to:-

Charles Taylor,gas valve man, 5 Greaves Street Walkley;

Leslie Crofts air raid warden, 22 Coleridge Road, Attercliffe;

Leslie Harold Currie ARP warden, 100 Hemper Lane, Greenhill;

Police constable Samuel Radford, 2 Rolleston Road, Firth Park;

Sergt H Henry Scott-Williams of Torquay;

Corporal A G Wisby of Bishop's Stortford


OBE was awarded to Mr Frank Williams 58,Longstone Crescent Frecheville
MBE to Mr A P Prentice 77 Highcliffe Road, High Storrs
BEM to Mr Dennis Bingham, 48 Idsworth Road Sheffield and Sergt W L Eldridge of South Lambeth

Three members who drove ambulances while the bombs were falling were Mrs Susan Florence of 123 Union Road Nether Edge,Miss Joan Brenda Sykes of 71 Dykes Hall Road, Hills borough and Mr Fredercck Oliver Ravenhill, 53 Norfolk Park Road.


Others commended for brave conduct were

Mr Eric Allsop, Miss Edith Annie Elliss, Miss Winifred Rose Giddins, Mrs Kathleen Barbara Grayson, Mr Percy Heptonstall, Mr Robert John Webster Rodgers, Mr Joseph William Simnet, Mr William Townsend, Miss Phyllis Wilkins
Warner, Miss Marjorie Woods.
