THANK YOU FOR SOLVING A PROBLEM FOR ME.IWAS NOT SURE WHETHER THIS WAS THE CINEMA OR KINEMA. NOW I KNOW IT WAS THE KINEMA THAT WAS DOWN PROCTOR PLACE AT THE SIDE OF DON BAKERY AND OPPOSITE ATKIN AND ANSELL'S FURNITURE. BOTH NOW GONE.

HAVE SEEN MANY A COWBOY AND INJUN KILLED THERE AND THE YANKS WINNING WARS OR SAW THEY THOUGHT. DID NOT FIND MANY GIGGLE LINES OR TANNERS THOUGH.

I was driving down Middlewood Road last year when my wife pointed out that her parents held their wedding reception there in the late 1940's. Looking across, I thought a Netto supermarket was rather an odd place for a wedding reception but was assured that it used to be a cinema and that as well as showing films, they used to host functions as well.

Guest tsavo

Many of the old cinemas originally had restaurants and these were often used for private functions. Going to the cinema in those days really was an event for many people. Apart from radio, they had little else to take them away from their everyday lives.
