eldomsmith
At the bottom of Canning St, between Rockingham St and Trafalgar St, there's a dig underway. They have unearthed back to back housing, and cutlery works including a horn workshop. The lady I spoke to was unsure where the survey would be documented, but said there were plans to build over once recorded.
lysandernovo
Must be lots of "back to back" remains under the surface around the City centre.I wonder, do we actually have a single real "back to back"....as opposed to a terrace house extant? eldomsmith
Does anyone have any info (from directories?) about the occupancy here? I assume this would have been Devonshire Lane? Also. On the third pic, anyone have any what these structures may have been?

southside
Am i right in thinking that the coal Shute going down into the cellar would be located on the front of the property? The dig site on Bing Maps.

The dig site on Bing Maps. If the housing was "back-to-back" with a coal cellar, I would think the rear houses would also have a coal-chute. The last "back-to-back" in Sheffield was put up in 1864.
