Three metres beneath this site lie the remains of POND TILT FORGE 

1793-1856

The tilt hammer forged Sheffield steel, powered by the rivers Sheaf and Porter.

The forge closed to make way for the railway after a working life that included use as a grinding wheel and timber saw mill
