anitamo
Long shot I know but does anyone have any idea if there was/is a list of ARP Wardens for Sheffield and if so where would/could I access it?
Edmund
The Sheffield Archives have under reference CA529/7/13/6 and CA529/745 "ARP Act 1937 - registration forms for ARP volunteers The forms record: Name; Address; Type of duties/skills - first aid or knowledge of air raid precautions. Date 1938 - 1943" I don't know if they're working, but if so they might help search - Email archives@sheffield.gov.uk
anitamo
Thank you Edmund, I doubt they are working right now and I am isolated right now so I may have to bide my time.....and my patience!
lysandernovo
The City estimated it would need 6,546 air raid wardens and 12,622 emergency workers. Recruitment was "generally" good except for the East End where recruitment was poor...given the likelihood of heavy raids on that area recruitment was a major cause for concern.
