Voldy
The 49th International Cross Country Championships event was held at Graves Park, Sheffield on 24th March 1962 a few weeks after the Gales had caused considerable damage in the City. It consisted of a Senior race over 7.5 miles (12km) and Junior race over 4.7 miles (7.5km). This competition started in 1903 and lasted until 1972 when it was taken over by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) becoming the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1973. Here are some old slides of the Senior race, fortunately the first one captured the eventual winner No6 Gaston Roelants and 2nd No 1 (both Belgians).Sorry about the quality of the (single speed) camera shots and the duplication of the Gaston Roelants action picture.
