RockinInTheFreeWorld
Hi John - thanks for your response. I don't recall Mr.Hook being at our school during my time there. In fact, our head was Sir William Hill who my dad new and met with occasionally on some of the PTA meetings. I can remember all of my form and subject teachers and those teachers I knew by sight but who never taught me. Apart from Mr.Hill the most senior teachers were Mr. Hunt as deputy head and later Mr.Yates who held the same role - now all passed on. R

I recall him well, a progressive and fair man who ran a good school.
Lysanderix
Mr Hook was at FPGS before he went on to the then brand new Hinde House. He was well liked. I knew “ Bill” Hill out of a political interest in the SDP .He had been head hunted to run Sheffield’s purpose built Comp….something about which he held firm and progressive views. A nice bloke! John Russell
I started at Brincliffe Grammar aged 11 and then our form (21 of us) transferred to Myers Grove for 'O' Levels in '66. I was in the Sixth Form during '67 and '68. My father was there as one of the Art Teachers from the start ('61?) until c.'74. He specialised in pottery. Julie ann
I started Myers Grove in 1969 was Julie Skinner then, Can't remember head teachers name, but deputy head was Mrs Hipsley, sports teacher was Shiela Sherwood who went off to the Olympics with her Husband John, she got silver in long jump. Forgotten a lot of the teachers names, think Mr Lloyd was Chemistry? Mrs Bennett Needlework ? Would welcome any anyone else remembers from that time. I recall all the names you mention, together with a Mr Gallagher who was in charge of the engineering block. What a fantastic and inspirational guy, who made both practical machining and engineering history come alive.
Snozzle
I was at Myer's Grove from 1967-1972. William Hill ran it like an old grammer school and Rugby ruled the roost as far as sport was concerned. Cricket and athletics during the summer. Even playing footy at break times was frowned upon. The head of the lower school was a Mr. Sanders. A good school and I mainly enjoyed my time there. Lysanderix
Bill Hill was a firm advocate of Comprehensives “ levelling up” as opposed to some Comps which seemed to want the lowest common denominator!
