togger
Good afternoon everyone, Not sure if anyone can help, but here goes. My father house when he was a lad at 104 Bungay Street had a compulsory purchase order on it as can be seen in the London Gazette of 1946, and it duly was torn down. I am interested in how I would go about finding out what year that particular house was built? Anyone help please?

Edmund
Number 104 was being rented out in 1862: The site was occupied in 1850-51 - but from the map it's not clear whether it was an older structure?
History dude
Tayler's map of 1832 shows not even the streets - Bungay or Granville there. So it seems unlikely that in the 1850 map that was a old building. In fact since both of the streets have dotted line edges, that could mean that they were under construction when surveyed in 1850. So my conclusion in that it was built between 1840 and 1849.
boginspro
Hello togger , there was a shoe maker next door in 1845 -- White's Directory " Kirkham David, shoemaker, 102 Bungay street, Park " EDIT: In 1841 Rogers it is only mentioned as "Bungay Street, 91 Granville st. Park" And no mention in 1837 White's
togger
I love this website, "ask and ye shall find". Fantastic information from all so I can say for certain that the property was 100 years old (ish) when demolished. Many thanks all Togger
RLongden
Not really an answer to your question, but a nice photo here and mention of number 104. Also talks about family connections, so any relation of yours perhaps? https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s07009&pos=1&action=zoom&id=10241
