Don't know if this is the same knife but there used to be one similar, on display in the old Norfolk Market hall in the forties and early fifties.

At that time, a new blade was added every year and it often got a write up in the Sheffield Star from time to time.

Those were the days when Sheffield was a great and very important city with industry which led the world in so many ways.

I totally agree with your comment about Sheffield industry.

I think the knife in the Norfolk Market Hall was the Year Knife by Joseph Rodgers and Sons, the same firm produced the Norfolk Knife, (they don't make them like that anymore). Pictures of those are available on Picture Sheffield, here are a couple of them       --------    http://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s10101&pos=3&action=zoom&id=13186   ----------------    http://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s10107&pos=3&action=zoom&id=13192

The pearl scales showing Bavarian hunting scenes, were carved by the best pearl carver in Sheffield Charles Levesley for which he was paid a whopping £900, over £5,000 in today's money but look at the workmanship.
