southside
Talk in the pub the other night somehow came around to greyhounds, one of the guys spoke about going to a stadium closer to town than Owlerton but couldn't remember where it was located. Can anyone shed any light on this place for me. Thanks Southside,
Peter Walker
May be thinking of Hyde Park Dog Track. There was also a dog track (Darnall Stadium) at Acres Hill (I believe)
boginspro
I agree with Peter Walker, it has to be Hyde Park or Darnall, Picture Sheffield has images of both, here are a couple with Hyde Park first ----------------- http://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s28589&pos=4&action=zoom&id=89701 --------------------- http://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s28593&pos=3&action=zoom&id=89705
southside
Thanks guys, I guess my mate went to Hyde Park with it being closer to town than Darnal. Had a look on Wikipedia, there's guite a bit of history connected to the area where the Dog Track was eventually built in 1933. Apparently W.G.Grace played in a cricket match there! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Park_(cricket_ground)
boginspro
Hyde Park would be under the place which appears now to be known as Manor Oaks Gardens. There was another cricket ground established up Plantation Road, an extension of Park Hill Lane, presumably for the local matches. I went to Hyde Park a couple of times, and once to Darnall with a dog owner, his dog was called Bust.

Gordon crapper
The Darnall one was at the top of Poole Road, which is off Prince of Wales Road just after the railway bridge. I never went dog racing but have been to a cricket match there, the club was Darnall Wellington I think. The match I went to was a benefit game, I think for the Derbyshire player George Pope, late 1940s
