A trip to Crich.

A few years back, I went to Crich for the day and noticed that every Sheffield tramcar had a little blue or red plaque in the window with a number on it.

I asked around and no one knew what they were for. I even emailed Crich, (back in the early days of the net,) but got no reply.

Then over the last few weeks I’ve been down there three or four times, and in one of the depots, found these displayed on the wall.....on one side the number that I had seen previously and on the other, these beautifully written instructions.

Im totally in love with this hand writing....look at the way the person has written the ‘R’s and the ‘B’s....we don’t write like that these days sadly. There’s looks to be more than one person writing these but one person has written cards out for more than one depot, suggesting that they were written centrally and sent out to the depots? I love the little Sheffield Transport stamp too.

Ive taken a photo of all the cards on display. From this it would appear that each depot had a different colour, Tinsley = blue, Shoreham St = orange and Tenter St = red.

Cant see anything for Crookes, Hillsborough or Queens Rd though.....does anyone know what colour they were?

On the buses we called them running boards, the first crew picked it up when signing on and then it stayed with the vehicle until it  ran in to depot. From memory the writing wasn't much different on the buses in the 60's and 70's.

Same handwriting again!

Look at the ‘w’, ‘d’, ‘r’

Looking at the colour, it would appear Crookes depot was black.

only Queens Rd and Hilllsboriugh to find now!

I don't think it is black, this is the other side, I should have posted it with the other.
