Tuffty
My old school buddy from Rowlinson [RIP] (1961-66) and I are continually arguing as to where, EXACTLY, Redgates shop was on /off the Moor. We are probably yards apart in our views but does anyone have the exact positioning, or better still a photo to settle this 40+ year difference of opinion once and for all?!! :-)
Jane Marshall
Redgates was on the moor originally - it was next to Woolworths, opposite where Debenhams is now. It had a downstairs too. Later, it moved around the corner, just off the moor. That building is empty but after Redgates closed it became the Coop department store. The Wilson Grumpet toy shop in Fitzalan Square also belonged to Redgates but never adopted the name. You are both right!
mammybear
it was just above woolworths. after redgates moved it became quadrant stationers, you could go downstairs and get through to redgates via a passage.
