Sheffield History
How great is this image of Wicker in the early 1900’s? Very atmospheric
boginspro
I’ll stick my neck out and guess this may have been taken from about here or at least a similar angle. Two things I think I recognise are Samuel Osborn’s offices and the Exchange Brewery chimneys. Picture (c) Google Earth.

madannie77
It could be better. There are no trams in shot (I suppose I would say that, though) Seriously, it really does ooze atmosphere. Fantastic.

I was trying to work out if there was one to the right of that railway horse wagon, there seems to be something there but it is too hazy to tell what it is, probably just wishful thinking.
madannie77
That is a good spot. It could well be the headlight of a tram, given that on the early trams the headlight was between the decks. That light does not seem to be quite in line with all the others on the far side of the road, so who knows. Wishful thinking on my part as well, perhaps. I shall take back my comment about no trams whether it is or not, as I like a bit of wishful thinking now and again
Athy
It actually looks too good to be true, as if it's a still from a film. Can anyone make out whose horse-drawn van it is? I magnified the picture but still could not make out the lettering. Also, there appear sto be a crowd of people in the misty left background. What could they be doing? Waiting for a tram? madannie77
Not sure I would be happy with all the muck on the road as I am not keen on cleaning shoes too often and I am not much of a gardener)
