Station Master

Sheffield Victoria.

It had a wonderful atmosphere that station. Though I only went on it when it was closed. I sneaked past the the small bay platform in front of the signal box at the top end. When the signal man wasn't looking.

I love those Eastern Region signs too. Much better than those on the Midland. Both stations though had those named lights. I loved the ones mounted on a concrete post.

An excellent photograph. Taken post-electrification of this line, but the railways were still advertising and offering a telegraphic service, so probably middle 1950s. At the principle railway stations, and I don't know as to whether Victoria Station qualified as such, it would still be the custom for station masters to don a top-hat in order to meet the most important passenger trains. The enamelled signs look as if they are Eastern Region dark-blue. Do we know the guys name by the way?
