Here the Insurance map of 1888 which includes 69 Market Place

In terms of the date of the photo, here's the best I can do, not conclusive!  - Cockaynes took over the premises at 69 Market Place in October 1895, where Birks (incorporating the tea warehouse) had been since November 1853.  That doesn’t narrow the date range down much.  Garside and Shaw (timber and oil merchants) were formed out of the previous business of Shaw and Craven in March 1858, and in January 1876 Joseph Shaw , “late of King Street but now of Exchange street, oil and seed merchant” filed an application for bankruptcy.  Henry Bach’s Family Shirt Warehouse was operating in 1852, still going in 1866

Some comprehensive information on the Birks:

Bromleys Boot and Shoe, at No. 71 Market Place was listed in directories in 1841, whereas at that date No.69 was a Hatters shop, owned by a Nathaniel Bacon.

Bromleys were still listed at 1855, but although the business was still that of a Boot and Shoe maker, it looks like it was sold to a W. Elliot by 1871.

By 1881, 71 Market Place was a watch maker and jeweller, Harris Leon Brown.

So, Picture Sheffield has the image between 1851 and 1899. The information from Edmund would narrow this to between 1853 and 1876 and the information above further narrows this to between 1855 and 1871.

The 'Ferrotype' photographic technique (which this image seems to be of this type) became popular in the 1860's, so a rough 'middling' estimate would maybe put the image at c.1865?
