Stunmon
Does anyone remember the sweet shop across the road from the Paragon Cinema at Firth Park? The Paragon of course is long gone! I seem to remember that at one time it was called 'Hibberts'? Also a name in my mind is 'Dainties' or was it just the Paragon Sweet shop? I may be getting confused with the 'Paragon Chip shop' which was just a few doors away!!!!
lysander
A bag of chips ,with scraps, was a bit of a treat from the Paragon fish and chip shop after a night at the flicks. The guy who ran the shop ,I seem to remember he had a dark moustache was smart and always wore an immaculately clean white overall. The sweet shop, I am pretty certain ,was Hibbert's and I think Dainties was the brand name for a sweet. Firth Park in the 1950's had 4 or 5 chip shops with Cotterill's being one I especially remember after receiving a battered blue bottle in a threepenny bag!
