Hammerton Road Street Lamp

Not seen this scene before and not seen a street lamp with a street name written upon it.

Was that a regular thing that happened?

This appears to be at the bottom of Hammerton Road (on the corner of Langsett Road).  The building in the background on the right is the Barrack Chapel on way to Hillsbrough Corner.  It's possible that this was one way of indicating the street if there were no signs as we have today.   Was the police station on Hammerton Road built when this photograph was taken - if so that could be another reason the name was on the lamp.

Looks like you could be right, and its a picture of Langsett Rd, with Hammerton Rd going off to the left?
