Anyone remember the Beehive Pub on Dykes Hall Road?

Currently a Tesco Express the Beehive Pub was a favourite of locals but also very popular before and after Sheffield Wednesday home games at Hillsborough

The pub went the same way as many after the smoking ban and the rise in prices of alcohol and went through a bad patch where it turned really rough before eventually closing down and reopening as a supermarket

Situated on Dykes Hall Road just up from Hillsborough (is this area Wadsley?) The Beehive is yet another example of Sheffield pubs that are no longer with us

For a short period from about 69 to 75 The Beehive had a back room Juke Box Disco that was a magnet for youth that rejected Bubblegum pop music.

The play list included bands such as The Doors, Canned Heat and Cream. Loons and Tie & Dye with the obligatory Kaftan was the garbe and midweek many of the Buckaneer and Pent House crowd would be found there. Friday and Saturday many of the younger Dial House WMC patrons  would pop in for a half hour session while the shush for the Bingo was being played out up the road.

Wednesday nnights the last bus into town was often close to full as the Beehive blues brigade would head for the Pent House to take advantage of the 10 pence drinks night.
