Sheffield History 465
THE GOLDEN EGG RESTAURANT - FARGATE - SHEFFIELD Found this photo today of The Golden Egg Restaurant on Fargate (think it's now a mobile phone shop with a hairdressers upstairs?) Does anyone remember this place or even better did you work there or go in for a meal? With such a strange name it'd be great to find out what kind of food they sold and what kind of restaurant it was?

David Harpham 0
I used to go in there as a teenager with my schoolmates. It served up mostly fast food very similar to Wimpy.
sovrappeso 1
They served a variety of omelettes, mostly. I'm fairly sure it was part of a nationwide chain. I remember it from the early 1970s.
rover1949 14
I went to one in Blackpool in the 60s, don't remember any eggs being served but I did have my first glass of wine there.
rover1949 14
Good stuff, how did you find that? I could get eggs at home so probably just looked for hamburgers.

Just googled images for “Golden Egg Restaurant” and loads of these came up. If you do the same there are some background stories and history on the restaurant, how it started and was eventually the chain was sold in 1980.... I vaguely remember it, yet don’t think I ever ate there?
