Highfield and Myrtle Road football stadiums.

Between 1867 and 1877 The Wednesday FC played at these two stadiums. Highfield (1867-70) and Myrtle Rd (1870-77). The Wikipedia pages speculate about the precise location of both, but surely a reasonably substantial football ground would be marked on maps etc. So do we know where both were sited?

Could it be that they are one in the same? High field is the area whereas Myrtle Road is an address, I've always thought they played where the Amey depot is now.

The Wednesday did play at Olive Grove in the late nineteenth century.

Entry in Whites Directory 1878  businesses and residents on Bramall Lane.

1878
Garratt Richard, Victualler, Sheaf House Hotel, and proprietor of Sheaf Gardens Cricket Ground, Bramall Lane

There are large CRICKET GROUNDS at Bramall Lane, Hyde Park, New Hall, Endcliffe, Sandygate,
and Langsett Road. NEW HALL, a large brick mansion, was erected more than a century ago by John Fell, Esq., who amassed considerable wealth at the iron works here, and whose widow, after appropriating much to charity, bequeathed the residue of her ample fortune to the father of the late Richard Swallow, Esq. About 1855 the Hall and its extensive pleasure-grounds were purchased by Messrs. Hunt & Co., by whom they were converted into a place of amusement, after the style of sorne of the public gardens, etc., about London ~ but the grounds are now used for athletic and other sports. At Broomgrove, Pitsmoor, Steelbank, and Netheredge are PROPRIETARY BOWLING GREENS, aIl at Bramall Lane and Queen's Road are subscription greens. There are also several greens in connection with inns, etc., in the suburbs. A RACECOURSE, comprising about 70 acres, formed near Lodge Moor and Fulwood Lodge by the Sheffield Racing Company (lim.), who have a capital of £15,000 in 500 sharesof £30, was opened in August 1875. The company 113,have also 17 acres of land above the water Company's conduit, which they farm. The land cost £8400, and the formation, &c., of the Racecourse over £2000, but the site having proved unsuitable, the land is being let for farming purposes, and the company is acquiring a lease of the New Hall grounds, to adopt them for racing purposes. Mr. William Bradbury is secretary.
