What does everyone remember about this Sheffield feature ?

Anyone know if it is still in existence anywhere ?

I remember it well, like the kiosk it became a regular meeting place for people coming in to Pond Street on different bus routes. It must have been very handy for strangers coming by bus or rail.

Anyone know when it vanished?

I remember it's predecessor which stood just inside the Exchange Street entrance to the Norfolk Market Hall.

It had large numbers of pea lens filament bulbs stuck through the map and about half of them failed to light up when you pressed the button of interest. It must have been a pain to renew the bulbs when they failed. The LED with a life of around 100,000 hours was still about 30 years in the future when this contraption was probably built.

Always a must see for a spotty schoolboy after a trip down into Maces Pet Shop cellar under the old market.
