Scattered Homes

Hi everyone, it's been a while since i've posted on the forum.

I've been reading a lot about the workhouses and scattered homes of Sheffield on Peter Higginbotham's great site here http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Sheffield/ .

Further down the page shows this commemorative plaque, SheffieldHomes2.jpg

Has anyone any idea where this stone is laid?

Thank-you in advance. :)

It is on the little road leading into the Northern General Hospital site off Herries Rd from the Fir Vale end. It is at second storey height. All these buildings are to be demolished in the near future. I have been taking photographs of them and have passed them on to Picture Sheffield. The stable buildings behind Goddard Hall are also to be demolished.

Thanks for the link Lyn.

It looks like it'll be another piece of Sheffield history that is resigned to just photo memories.

Very sad. :(

Ok, so i went down today to the old buildings at the Northern General Hospital, and took a few photo's.
Very sad to see the dilapidated state of the buildings, but it's even sadder that they'll soon be gone! :(

Here are the photo's i took.

For those who do not know -

Goddard Hall is the large top building. Goddard Hall estate purchased by the Guardians c1891.

Chesterman House is where the Superintendent lived.

The other buildings which have been stores in recent times and renamed Wycliffe House was the Receiving home and offices. The homes were in existence from 1894 - 1939. 3 large detached houses once stood on the car park above Chesterman House.

The bottom photo is the back of Goddard Hall which has probably been unused since the late 1970s.
