duckweed
Can anyone tell me about this building's history? I know the Horticultural and Floral society started in 1847 but when did they acquire the building? Also was the building built for them or did they take over an existing building? Edmund
The building (and Gainsford Road) are not shown on the 1905 map. The club had the 647 Staniforth Road address in 1920. Based on these dates it's "likely" the premises were built for them. Previously they met just around the corner at the Wellington Inn (222 Main Road)
boginspro
I frequented this and other Working Mens Clubs round this area in my younger days and this one seems to be still affiliated to the Working Mens Club and Institute Union. Good on them, a lot have vanished.
