ktlaylay
Reviving an old thread because I'm unsure what's happening with the Old Red Lion building. Stonegate relatively recently turned Reflex into a Slug and Lettuce. People claim that the Old Red Lion was connected to that building so presumably Stonegate still own it, but it seems to still be unused now. All of the shops next to it are now derelict. There was space for two downstairs with their own doors and then, by virtue of the central staircase, two more on the next floor up. I'm not sure what happened on the top floor. Google Maps reveals that as of 2011 the corner was a panini shop with a beauty salon, sunbeds and a hairdressers around there too: By 2014 the panini shop was gone and by 2015 a tattoo parlour was in its place. A new hairdressers is next door: By 2017 the tattoo parlour is also gone (they're now in Darnall), its black paint job still extant: By 2019, though, things have changed signiifcantlty. The tattoo parlour section remains derelict, and upstairs now has no reference of a beauty salon and has blinds in instead. The door next door is boarded up.The shop with "gents salon" is Dapper Chaps and is also closed, as that shop relocated to Devonshire Street. Of course, Reflex is also now The Slug & Lettuce. As of 2020, no photos of this, the blinds in the upstairs on the corner are down and that floor looks a mess, almost like it's been ransacked. The middle window has been open in the same place for weeks. And recently, on the top floor of the building, one of the pitch black windows has been put out. That corner of West/Holly Street is now all derelict and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a prime target for demolition and redevelopment, when so many shops go next to each other that's pretty ominous and it's in a great location, being on a corner next to a tram stop. ktlaylay
And there's more: I did a search on the address and the shops have all been sold. It's listed as 43-45 West Street and was sold for 200k in November 2019. Here's the listing: https://www.markjenkinson.co.uk/assets/Uploads/eBrochure-43-45-West-Street.pdf Now it'll be a case of waiting to see if it's going to be redeveloped, and also what happens with the Old Red Lion section too. Sheffield History
Wasn't there a music magazine/fanzine produced upstairs in this building?
ktlaylay
Updated my post as I was factually inaccurate in places. Old Red Lion in June 2000 and then March 2001, this has to have been not long before closure: The same angle as the second photo in 2005. At this time the inside of the Old Red Lion was called Boom:
