I'll be the first to admit - I do not have a clue, a work colleague suggests "Germany" but can't give a reason. Great question. Don't hold yer breath for an answer lol

Did anyone have a look round the side of the Fat Cat for a "sign" ? Should have been a Road Sign there, in the "wrong" place .....

While searching for info on the unusual posts at the Fat Cat, found this pic. Notting to do with the question but couldn't resist this one!

I'm stumped, at least Tsavo posted a funny picture to hide his shame lol

Don't know if it relates to a person, a building, a company or whatever. The Workhouse was there, and a Cotton Mill before that, the flood came and went past there, the Alma pub also (pre Fat Cat), named after Crimean War battle, Kelham Island. Maybe a manufacturers mark. Was there a brewery near there, "Crown"-related ? (I thought that was "Berry" who ran that.

Right, I've finished babbling .....

Complete blank from me, I'm afraid at the moment lol lol

It's just that I know cannons were used as bollards and the HN motif and the crown does have a royal feel to them.

...........one name I hadn't thought of, so any comments Mickj?

Would he have a royal connection though ? I do not know the answer myself that is why I am asking. I happened to notice them after the meet up in May and thought someone would know.

Arhhhh! Thought you new the answer. Have trawled through all the old brewer's names hoping to find an HN but nothing even close. Tried to tie it to the Crimean war and nothing there either. So, a real mystery to fathom. Back to the drawing board then.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he made a Lord who would have a coronet??

Just a thought

Just been looking up and he was made a knight of the order of Bath whose insignia include the rose and the crown.

Horation Nelson was made Baron Nelson in 1798 and then Viscount Nelson in 1801 his brother subsequently became Earl Nelson, so quite a link to royalty and the peerage. :)

His ship HMS Victory had loads of cannons.

I still think they were cast to commemorate the death of Horatio Nelson. The coronet indicates the peerage. Haven't a clue where the pink ones are though.
