SteveHB
I'm reasonably sure that it is the canal near Tinsley flight.

SteveHB
Think the building (lock house) stood by No.4 lock. Flash Earth
HughW
That is surely not the same building. In the painting - a single tower with different windows, different scale. On the bend of a waterway. Access via an external stairway. Lock House - the castellated end to a longer building, at right angles to a straight lock. No sign of an external stairway. hilldweller
Thinking about how companies used to often adopt a "corporate" style, for example railway companies used similar designs for all their stations, perhaps the canal company built other lock keepers lodges in a similar style further down the canal. Perhaps the building is somewhere else in South Yorkshire. HD
