Guest andybristol
Evening All, I'm a newby on here so please be gentle! We have an old boxed set of 6 'rustless nickel silver' forks, spoons and tea spoons with 6 knives engraved 'Made in Sheffield - T H Hydes - England' and 'Firth Stainless'. All in excellent condition, never used by the looks of it. Has anybody heard of T H Hydes cutlery (I think it's a T, it could be an F or a J), any ideas where their firm was? My Mum had them and she got them from her Mum, they lived in Park Hill Lane until Hyde Park Flats were built and their house demolished. I've been in touch with the Archivist to the Cutlers Company but she couldn't help saying they didn't have a record of a Hydes cutlery firm in Sheffield in the 20's or 30's which the term 'Firth Stainless' would indicate. She says they were probably made in Sheffield but marketed by Hydes and the Sheffield manufacturer may have made them with the marketer's name on it. Anybody got any thoughts where they were made or who Hydes are? Your help would be appreciated. Regards Andy
RichardB
Hello and Welcome to the site Andy. I've had a hunt around and, thus far, I've found precisely nowt. The only "Hydes" I can think of is Hydes and Wigfull of Stanley Street but they made bicyles and steam pumps, iron gates and hurdles !
